The Sixth Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC6)

The sixth session of the intergovernmental negotiating committee to prepare a global legally binding instrument on mercury (INC6) is scheduled 3-7 November, in Bangkok, Thailand. INC6 will carry out work to prepare for the entry into force of the Minamata  Convention  on mercury and for the first meeting of the Conference of Parties.

Led by the Ministry of Environmental Protection , Chinese government delegates from the Ministry of  Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of  Industry and information technology and other agencies attended the meeting.

Issues under consideration include, inter alia: importing mercury; registering exemptions; rules of procedure and financial rules for the COP; guidance and assistance to countries with artisanal and small-scale gold mining; storage, waste and management of contaminated sites; and operation of the financial mechanism.

Chinese delegation has fully attended the plenary meeting, regional group meetings and contact groups, and actively made voice from the standing of China, playing constructive role in some critical issues.
